Old cars and owners at 11th Aldergrove Country Car show

April 27 event at Aldergrove Community Secondary School (ACSS)

Both the cars and many of the owners may be getting older, but they still turn out in the hundreds for the annual Country Car Show in Aldergrove, which holds it's 11th event on Sunday, April 27 at the Aldergrove Community Secondary School (ACSS), at 26850 29th Ave.

Hosted by the , partial proceeds from the event will support the school's automotive program.

Volunteer Mike McVay said one of the more interesting vehicles on display will be a souped-up 1928 Rolls-Royce belong to Merritt resident Peter Ouimet, which has been featured in the show poster.

"It is beautifully done on the inside and outside," McVay enthused. "It's unique."

"[Ouimet] does about 100 kilometres an hour on the highway with it, no problem."

McVay, who will be showing his 1968 Pontiac Firebird, likes the social part of the car show.

"I've been meeting different people, and it's nice to see them," McVay said.

"You see these guys for so many years, and they've become good friends, and it's nice to see them get together, and the different cars they're having. And, of course, we're all getting older, so we kind of realize when we see one another, 'hey, you're still around'."

Even when they can't drive any more, car fans will still show up,  McVay has noticed.

"Some guys I know that can't drive anymore, they come around and drool over the cars. They can't drive because either they lost their license or [for] health reasons, but they're still coming by."

Registration for vehicles starts at 7 a.m., with entry fees of $20 per vehicle. The show is open to spectators from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free to attend.

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 250 vehicles to register.

There will be a raffle and a 50/50 draw, with trophies awarded at 2:30 p.m.
