Robert Van Zytveld thought the lottery ticket scanner at the Otter Co-op must be broken when it flashed $500,000.

But the 91原创 man was soon to learn he was the winner of the July 6 Lotto Max draw and would receive half a million dollars.

鈥淭he screen showed $500,000, I thought it was broken,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 checked the numbers again using the Lotto! app on my phone, and it was a match,鈥 Van Zytveld added.

He鈥檚 got some initial plans for the money. He鈥檚 always enjoyed world travel and has a new destination in mind. This win, he says, will allow him to do it in style next time.

鈥淚 would like to take my wife to Bora Bora,鈥 he said.

Other plans are closer to home.

鈥淚 love doing things like riding my Harley, fishing and cooking. Maybe I will get that new kitchen I have been wanting for quite some time,鈥 he said.

Van Zytveld purchased his ticket in New Westminster.
