The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim of a Strawberry Hill shooting as a 25-year-old man from 91原创.
Police say Jatindeep Singh, 25, does not have a criminal record. IHIT confirms the shooting was a "targeted, isolated incident."
Police in Surrey responded to a call around 5:30 a.m. July 5 of a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the Home Depot parking lot near the 12200 block of 73 Avenue, Surrey RCMP media relations officer Cpl. James Mason said in a previous news release.
Singh was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, where he later died, police say.
IHIT is looking to speak with the friends and associates of Singh. Additionally, anyone with surveillance video, or dash-camera footage in the area of 7300 block of 122 Street on July 5, 2024, between 4:00 am to 6:00 am is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
IHIT is working with the BC Coroners Service, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the Surrey RCMP Detachment.
This is Surrey鈥檚 sixth homicide of the year.
Last year, Surrey had 12 homicides, 22 in 2022 and 10 in 2021. In 2020 there were 12 homicides, 21 in 2019 and 15 in 2018.
The most the city recorded in any given year was 25 in 2013, breaking the previous record of 21 in 2005.
Since IHIT took over investigating homicides from the Surrey RCMP鈥檚 serious crimes section in June 2003, it has to date cleared 205 of the total 363 homicide cases it has investigated in Surrey. That is a clearance rate of 56 per cent. These cases, according to IHIT, 鈥渉ave been cleared by charge, recommended charge, or cleared otherwise.鈥
