Next Saturday, Sept. 23 the puck drops on a new season for one of 91ԭ’s premier hockey teams – the Vancouver Giants.
It will be a “trip down memory lane” for G-Men fans, said Dale Saip, the Giants senior vicep-president.
“Ten years ago we raised our Memorial Cup banner at the Pacific Coliseum, and our 2017 CIBC home opener will provide our fans with the opportunity to relive the magic from the past, while also witnessing our incredibly bright future,” Saip said.
Each fan in attendance will receive a commemorative poster of the 2007 Memorial Cup championship team.
The evening will also include several video excerpts from the 2007 Memorial Cup reunion held earlier in the summer.
Prior to puck drop, members from the 2007 Memorial Cup championship team will be on hand for a special pre-game ceremony. Confirmed attendees include Tyson Sexsmith, JD Watt, and Kenndal McArdle.
“Our Memorial Cup championship team was a special group, and still to this day, I think that team ranks as one of the greatest junior hockey teams ever,” Saip said. “Many players from that season are still playing pro hockey today and we’re thrilled to celebrate our storied past with our fans as we launch our 17th season in the Western Hockey League.”
The Vancouver Giants and CIBC team up for the 2017 Vancouver Giants home opener when the Giants welcome its B.C. Division rivals, the Victoria Royals to the 91ԭ Events Centre at 7 p.m.
The new season schedule includes thirteen Friday night games and nine Saturday night games. The Giants will also be hosting special events nights including the Hyundai Teddy Bear Toss and the Remax Don Cherry bobblehead night.
Tickets are “moving quickly,” Saip said, but it’s not too late to secure seats. Tickets are available by clicking or call 604-4-GIANTS.
