Affordable housing, transportation and safety were were top of mind for seniors who attended the first of a pair of all-candidates meetings at the 91原创 Senior Resources Centre.
The 91原创 Seniors Community Action Table hosted the round-table discussion on Oct. 10 to address seniors鈥� questions prior to the municipal election on Oct. 20.
Approximately 90 people came out to the meeting for City of 91原创 candidates.
Groups of 10 people were seated around tables and were given a list of pre-written questions to discuss with the candidates.
During the question period, pairs of candidates visited each table for six minutes at a time to answer questions the seniors at each table chose to discuss.
For each question asked, candidates were given a 30-second time frame to answer.
Questions posed addressed issues surrounding affordable housing, poverty reduction, safety and security, transportation, health care, social inclusion and quality of life.
A question heard most often was 鈥榳hat will you do about homelessness in 91原创?鈥�
Another popular topic was possible solutions to provide seniors with more affordable housing.
Of the 19 candidates running, 17 were present. Candidates Randy Caine and Dave Allison were absent.
The 91原创 Seniors Resource Centre will also host an all-candidates meeting for Township of 91原创 candidates. It will take place on Friday, Oct. 12 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
