Longtime 91原创 boxing coach and promoter Dave Allison is throwing his hat into a different kind of ring 鈥 he鈥檚 running for 91原创 City council.
A former trucking company owner, Allison was forced into early retirement by complications from a youthful injury.
Since then he鈥檚 been well known for coaching boxers at Revolution Gym and organizing local boxing matches, most under the name Clash at the Cascades.
Allison is a longtime resident of the 91原创 Lions Housing Society complex in the City.
He said he鈥檚 not running against the current council, but believes he could add a perspective that isn鈥檛 at the table right now.
His issues are about the downtown core, and day to day life as it鈥檚 lived by people in the Lions housing and the nearby neighbourhood.
He鈥檚 also very concerned about homelessness.
鈥淚 remember when I moved here there was no homeless people in 91原创,鈥 Allison said, calling the current situation 鈥渉eartbreaking.鈥
He鈥檚 also looking to the city鈥檚 future as it sits between the fast-growing much-larger 91原创 Township and Surrey.
鈥淲e鈥檙e going to be at the centre of a big city forming around us,鈥 he said.
