Double bass player will bring an added dimension to the music performed at the Rose Gellert Hall on the evening of Friday, Feb. 21.
Brian Arkell will join the 91原创 Community Music School's Rose Gellert String Quartet during the concert that starts at 7 p.m.
The LCMS鈥 Ensemble in Residence will perform Haydn鈥檚 stately String Quartet in C Major, Op. 76, No. 3, 鈥淓mperor鈥 and will then be joined by Brian Arkell on double bass for Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 exciting String Quintet No.2, Op. 77.

Violinist Will Chen holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria and a master's degree from Hochschule f眉r Musik Mainz, Germany. He has performed internationally, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, is the conductor of the Intermediate Surrey Youth Symphony Orchestra and a teacher at LCMS.
Violinist Llowyn Ball completed his master's degree in violin performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music after studying at the University of British Columbia (UBC) School of Music. He regularly performs with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra, the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver New Music and teaches violin at LCMS.
Violist Peter Ing is a Vancouver Symphony Orchestra musician who also works with various orchestras such as Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, and Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra. The LCMS faculty member obtained his bachelor鈥檚 degree from the University of Western Ontario and completed his master鈥檚 degree at UBC.
Cellist Ben Goheen holds a master's degree in cello performance from UBC and performs with a wide variety of small chamber ensembles and as a solo performer. He performs in several symphonies including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra, BC Chamber Orchestra, and Canada West Chamber Orchestra.

Arkell was a member of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra for 25 years before taking on the role of Assistant Principal Double Bass. He has performed with many of British Columbia鈥檚 premier orchestras, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Victoria Symphony.
He has taught at Douglas College and within the Surrey School District. Currently, he serves as the double bass section leader of the West Coast Symphony Orchestra and showcases his versatility as the bass guitarist for the blues/rock band Midnight Muse.
The Rose Gellert String Quartet is the ensemble in residence at LCMS, performing regularly for the school鈥檚 concert series, heading up and coaching for several chamber music programs, and providing instruction for music students. Outside LCMS, the quartet performs for various concert series throughout the Fraser Valley. Will Chen and Llowyn Ball (violin), Peter Ing (viola), and Ben Goheen (cello) are all active musicians, teachers, and music coaches.
On March 1, LCMS has pianist Jane Coop, and Henry Shapard on cello followed by more concerts throughout spring.
