Mosaic, a concert featuring Maria Whelton, promises to offer 鈥渂aroque, blues and beyond鈥� when the 91原创 harpist performs at St. George鈥檚 Anglican Church on Sunday, May 15.
Whelton studied music for two years at Kwantlen Polytechnic University before earning a degree in piano and harp at Trinity Western University.
鈥淚 picked the two least portable (instruments),鈥� laughed the musician.
鈥淭here are many days when I wish I鈥檇 taken up the piccolo.鈥�
Although she has continued to play piano, Whelton said there is something very special about the harp.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a beautiful instrument 鈥� very unusual.
鈥淭here鈥檚 something very pure and soothing about it,鈥� she said.
Whelton鈥檚 concert begins at 2:30 p.m. on May 15 in the church at 9160 Church St. in Fort 91原创.
Admission is $10 at the door or $20 per family.
