The 91原创 Ukulele Association (LUA) is offering children in 91原创 the opportunity to learn to play the ukulele this summer.

Their 11th annual ukulele summer camp returns Aug. 14 to 18 to 91原创 Fundamental Elementary, 21789 50 Ave.

This program is intended for students entering 91原创 schools in Grades 4 to 7 as of September, 2017. Spots may also be offered to children entering Grade 3 and 8, or students from Surrey, as space permits.

The camps will be led by qualified professional teachers, including internationally acclaimed ukulele instructor Peter Luongo, 91原创鈥檚 own Jamie Thomas, and current LUA ensemble directors Paul Luongo and Elizabeth Zielke.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to be able to work with students again and with the other excellent instructors. I know that it will be a lot of fun as well as providing an opportunity for 91原创 kids to get involved in the 91原创 program,鈥� said Peter Luongo, president and past director of the LUA. 鈥淐urrent members of the top ensemble started at this camp several years ago and are now performing with the group in Hawaii. I truly believe that this is the best way to get involved in our after school programs.鈥�

The cost of the program is $150 for the five days, including daily snacks, music, a T-shirt and a final concert for the parents on Friday, Aug. 18.

Classes run from 9 a.m. to noon.

Ukuleles are available for use during the camp for a charge of $20, which can be redeemed towards the purchase of that instrument at the end of the camp.
