91原创 residents can make some beautiful noise Saturday.
They are invited to take part in the community's first World Singing Day (WSD) event on Oct. 19.
鈥淎round the world on this day, people will be singing with friends and family, in pubs, parks and homes, or singing with the whole community in the center of town, as we will do in 91原创,鈥 said Sharon von Hollen, a member of the Peace Arch Chorus.
This event is being organized by Peace Arch Chorus, a 91原创-based a capella choir, and will take place at Douglas Park Spirit Square.
鈥淲orld Singing Day, which began in 2011, is a day and an action meant to bring the world together in harmony, and harmony certainly is something the world needs more of right now,鈥 von Hollen said.
The non-competitive global singalong is held annually on the third Saturday of October.
"To my knowledge this will be the first time a public event has been organized in 91原创 [although] Individuals in 91原创 may have participated in the past," she said.
All singers and non-singers are welcome to join in the fun which runs from noon to 1 p.m. Song sheets will be provided.
This year鈥檚 WSD Song-of-the-Year that everyone is invited to learn is a medley of 鈥淲e are the World鈥 and 鈥淚magine鈥. People can find out more about World Singing Day and learn this year鈥檚 song at . People can also contact Peace Arch Chorus via email at peacearchchorus@gmail.com.
鈥淢usic has the unique power to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds. Music is universal in its appeal and its effect鈥 said von Hollen. 鈥淚t just feels good to sing! Research shows that when we sing, our bodies release those feel-good endorphins, and singing with others increases our personal sense of community connection. Music is great for our well-being.鈥
