91Ô­´´ jazz and arts fest weekend is here

Fort 91Ô­´´ Jazz & Arts Festival runs July 26 to 28.

Fort 91Ô­´´ will come alive with the sounds of jazz as the Fort 91Ô­´´ Jazz & Arts Festival takes place from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28 with a mix of live performances, workshops, demonstrations, and kids activities.

The festival kicks off today (Friday, July 26) with the Cool Blues Show in the Fort 91Ô­´´ Community Park from 4 to 11 p.m.

People may want to head to the village Saturday morning for the Mardi Gras Strolling Parade. Everyone is welcome to join in the festivities that start at 9:30 a.m. After that, there's a day of free performances on two stages in front of the Fort 91Ô­´´ Community Hall throughout the weekend. Performances include artists like Hilario Duran, Hutcheson Andrew Trio, Wild Blue Herons with Horns, and more. The popular Kidz Zone, and variety of art, music and Indigenous culture workshops will be available on both days.

The Jake and Elwood’s Blues Brother Revue Saturday evening is sold out.

Sunday features Jazz AWE, an alternative worship experience at United Churches of 91Ô­´´ featuring the Maureen Washington Quartet, blending live jazz music with spiritual reflection. The 4 p.m. event is by donation in advance through eventbrite.ca.

The festival’s two Rising Jazz Star winners – Jaiden Christie and Steven Rutherford –will showcase their exceptional talent during the festival weekend, on the Rising Spirit Stage in front of the Fort 91Ô­´´ Community Hall. Christie performs lunchtime on Saturday while Rutherford is slated for midday Sunday.
