Annual jazz festival features diverse musical offerings and visual arts to enjoy

The countdown is on for the Fort 91原创 Jazz & Arts Festival taking place July 25 to 28.
 
"We're thrilled to bring the Fort 91原创 Jazz & Arts Festival back for another year of music, art, and community celebration. This year's lineup promises to be one of our most diverse and exciting yet and will be a blast for visitors of all ages鈥 said co-founder and executive director Karen Zukas.

The Fort 91原创 Jazz & Arts Festival brings a vibrant atmosphere and diverse musical lineup to the village.
 
"The Fort 91原创 Jazz & Arts Festival is truly a celebration for everyone, blending top-tier musical performances with interactive arts experiences throughout the historic and quaint village of Fort 91原创. As we count down to the festival, we invite music and art enthusiasts of all ages to join us for a weekend filled with world-class jazz, and vibrant artistic and cultural offerings," said co-founder and artistic director Dave Quinn.

鈥 Thursday, July 25, 1 to 3 p.m.: Kick off the festival with the Tribute to Duke Ellington featuring the Fred Stride Jazz Orchestra, in the Fort 91原创 Community Hall. Tickets: $27.96, at eventbrite.ca.
 
鈥 Cool Blues Show: From 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday, July 26, the show at Fort 91原创 Community Park, features acts such as Tom Lavin & The Legendary Powder Blues Band, Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, Miss Emily, Silent Partners (in a tribute to B.B. King), and Kenny 鈥淏lues Boss鈥 Wayne. Beer garden, food trucks, vendor market, art installation, games and more are also planned. Tickets: $70.56 to $96.56 (VIP) for adults, $33.28 for youth (12 to 18), and free for children.
 
鈥 Mardi Gras Strolling Parade: The free festival will kick off with the traditional event on Saturday, July 27, at 9:30 a.m. from the Fort 91原创 Farmers Market to the Fort 91原创 Community Hall. All are welcome to join the strolling parade.
 
鈥 Free festival: On Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there's a diverse lineup of free performances on two outdoor stages in front of the Fort 91原创 Community Hall including artists like Hilario Duran, Hutcheson Andrew Trio in a Tribute to Kenny Wheeler, Wild Blue Herons with Horns, and more. The popular Kidz Zone, art vendors and variety of art, music, and Indigenous culture workshops suitable for all ages will be available on both days. The event includes the Opus Outdoor Painting Challenge. Full lineup is on the festival website fortlangleyjazzfest.com.

鈥 Jake and Elwood鈥檚 Blues Brother Revue: On Saturday, July 27, ticket holders will experience the high-energy tribute to the Blues Brothers at Fort 91原创 Community Hall Ballroom which is unfortunately already sold out.
 
鈥 Jazz AWE: Sunday, July 28, 4 pm: The Alternative Worship Experience at United Churches of 91原创 features the Maureen Washington Quartet, blending live jazz music with spiritual reflection. The event is at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 28 and tickets are by donation (eventbrite.ca).
 
鈥 Youth Concert Series: The festival鈥檚 Youth Concert Series, presented by the Tony Quo Vadis Foundation and 91原创 Heritage Society, will conclude on Sunday, July 14, showcasing local young talent at Fort 91原创 Heritage CNR Station. This summer series has highlighted emerging musicians such as 91原创 Fine Arts School, Max Holmes, and James Vickers, a 14-year-old blues sensation. The series wraps with Trading Fours, a Vancouver-based jazz quartet performing July 14 between 1 and 3 p.m.

鈥 Rising Jazz Star winners: Jaiden Christie and Steven Rutherford will showcase their exceptional talent during the festival weekend, on the Rising Spirit Stage in front of the Fort 91原创 Community Hall. Christie performs Saturday, July 27 at 11:45 a.m. while Rutherford (see profile story) takes to the stage Sunday, July 28, at noon.
 
The Fort 91原创 Jazz and Arts Festival is a not-for-profit cultural organization that makes accessible jazz music and arts programming  through the presentation of year-round concerts and events and an annual music and arts festival.
