鈥淚 have created images inspired by many countries using various approaches; painting on site, working from photos, or abstracting the scene 鈥 whatever best shows the essence of the place,鈥 said Portelance, a longtime artist and Fort Gallery member. 鈥淥ften abstracted elements are incorporated into a piece to explore symbolic or environmental concerns, or to isolate facets of the subject.鈥
Burton鈥檚 presentation will feature oil paintings.
鈥淚 am intrigued by symbols and drawings which seem to be universal,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hese symbols have shown up since the beginning of recorded time and can always be seen in children鈥檚 art from all over the globe. These paintings are whimsical, colourful, and adventurous attempts at recreating the joy the symbols embody.鈥
An opening reception for the show will take place on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Fort Gallery, 9048 Glover Rd.
The gallery鈥檚 regular hours are Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
