ARTS BRIEFS: Country artists making their mark

Country musicians from 91原创 making imprint on fans world-wide

Just ahead of the 54th annual JUNO Awards in Vancouver on March 30, 91原创 country music star Dallas Smith 鈥 who's up for the country album of the year at the awards show 鈥 has released another toe-tapping hit.

Building on his track record of noteworthy success, the global artist and three-time consecutive CCMA entertainer of the year pressed the go button, releasing his latest single, "How Do You Miss Me," on Friday.

This song is a reimagination of the fan-favourite track from Smith鈥檚 self-titled album.

His first full-length project with Big Loud Records, "Dallas Smith" already scored two No. 1s at Canadian Country Radio with 鈥淯se Me鈥 and 鈥淔ixer Upper.鈥 Now this song, also featuring the vocals of Alexandra Kay, is expected to rise up the charts just as quickly.

鈥淎lexandra is someone who鈥檚 been on my radar for some time now. Her infectious energy and distinct vocal give a new life to the song that I think fans will really enjoy,鈥 shared Smith.

鈥淲orking with Dallas on this song has been an absolute honour,鈥 Kay said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 such a powerhouse in country music, and getting to put my own spin on a song that already resonates with so many people was really special. I can鈥檛 wait for everyone to hear it!鈥

Smith, who began as the front man of platinum-selling rock band Default, has now earned 21 gold-certified singles, nine platinum-certified singles, and four gold-certified albums, alongside more than 640 million global streams and over two million album equivalents to date. Now he's up for another JUNO.

"What an honour to be nominated鈥" Smith said of making the JUNO shortlist. "I can鈥檛 wait to celebrate with my Canadian music family in my hometown of Vancouver鈥"

Country rocker rebrands his sound

For many in 91原创, country fans have know him as Shawn Meehan, of Trigger Mafia, West Coast Slackers, as well as Me and Mae.

But people across the country are seeing a slightly different side to the Walnut Grove country rocker, as he rebranded himself Shawn Daniels and put out his newest brand of music.

He calls himself a Canadian outlaw country rocker who's cranks up the volume with his electrifying new single 鈥淟ouder Than Ten.鈥 He describes the track is a fiery blend of honky-tonk grit, bluesy soul, and rock 鈥榥鈥 roll rebellion.

鈥'Louder Than Ten' is an anthem for living life full throttle," said Meehan.

The single was released late last month, and already garnering a lot of attention, he noted.

With lyrics that celebrate the thrill of the open road and the freedom of making your own rules, he showcases his dynamic storytelling and raw, magnetic presence.

"From its searing guitar riffs to its chant-worthy chorus, the song is a celebration of unapologetic individuality and the transformative power of music. Whether you鈥檙e drawn to its outlaw spirit or its high-energy performance," he said "Louder Than Ten" is proof that he is turning up the dial on modern country rock.
