Reports claim the actor fell asleep at the wheel after working a 16-hour day

Actor KJ Apa fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his car into a light pole after a late night of filming, according to the .

Updated reports say the accident occurred last Thursday (Sept. 14), after filming in the Fraser Valley. Initially it was said the incident occurred last night.

Exactly where the accident happened is unclear, but the actor was driving 45 minutes to his hotel after working a 16-hour day, the Hollywood Reporter states.

The 20-year-old New Zealand actor stars as character Archie in the CW TV show, Riverdale, which has been filming at Gabby鈥檚 Country Cabaret in 91原创 City over the last two days.

Despite the incident, Apa didn鈥檛 look any worse for wear when he stepped out to meet fans on Tuesday and Wednesday. Many people waited outside on Fraser Highway and 203 Street for hours to catch a glimpse of some of the celebrities, including Apa, Skeet Ulrich and Cole Sprouse.

Those who work in the film industry have long complained about the unsafe working conditions that demanding hours can cause.The SAG-AFTRA union has even launched an investigation of the Riverdale set in greater Vancouver, the Hollywood Reporter says.

Although the schedules for cast and crew are not available, it appears long hours were spent filming in 91原创 as well.

According to a notice of filming obtained by the 91原创 Times, filming was done inside Gabby鈥檚 beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 19, with exterior scenes shot outside in the parking lot between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

On Sept. 20, filming began at 12:30 p.m., with the crew scheduled to move outside to film at 11:30 p.m. At approximately 3 a.m., the crew was to finish filming and start packing up their gear. All work was to be finished by 4:30 a.m.
