鈥淯p, up, follow me! No, around like this!鈥

That鈥檚 the sound of kite leader Terry Wiggill directing his crew on Sunday afternoon at .

The Victoria-based foursome, are members of Team Island Kite 鈥 a performance quad-line kite team based in Victoria.

鈥淐anada doesn鈥檛 have much of a culture of kite-flying, but much of the rest of the world does,鈥 said Wiggill. 鈥淜ite culture is worldwide.鈥

But Wiggle didn鈥檛 know that a decade ago when he first started.

鈥淎 friend gave me a kite and the rest is history!鈥 Wiggill said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a good time.鈥

The team 鈥 made up of Wiggill, Mario Di Lucci, Sari Becker and Mike Tracy 鈥 have travelled to Washington, D.C. and Oregon, and soon hope to go as far as Spain.

Kite-flying has garnered Wiggill some weird looks.

鈥淲hen you tell your friends you鈥檙e going to fly kites, they think of the little diamond things,鈥 he said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 single-line kites, dual-line kites, kites as big as a garage!鈥

He shakes his head.

鈥淚t鈥檚 odd. It鈥檚 an odd hobby.鈥
