An admirer of Kathleen Tennant鈥檚 鈥淲hat Do You See?鈥� at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Center main hall gallery was delighted to learn the artist was standing next to her, and proceeded to tell her how much she enjoyed the work.
鈥淚t鈥檚 you!鈥� the visitor exclaimed, and took Tennant aside for an animated conversation about the 48-inch X 40-inch mixed-media collage on wood.
A smiling Tennant had just finished explaining to the 91原创 Advance Times how she came to be one of 49 artists showing their work at the 鈥淧oint of View鈥� exhibition hosted by the 91原创 Arts Council.
It was an 鈥渆njoyable鈥� experience, commented Tennant, a Coquitlam resident.
鈥淚 follow the 91原创 Arts Council online and saw the call for the exhibition and decided to apply,鈥� Tennant said.
Part of the LAC 鈥淪eniors Art and Community Programming鈥� initiative funded by the federal government鈥檚 New Horizons for Seniors Program, the event included senior artists who took part in program classes this past summer and were encouraged to showcase their work in the show.
On Sunday, Jan. 13, a reception was held to formally open the exhibition, with refreshments, an opportunity for prospective buyers to talk to the artists, and live music, presented by acoustic guitarist/vocalist Jana Seale.
91原创鈥檚 Violet Nesdoly was showing her acrylic on canvas painting,鈥漃igeon Party鈥� portraying rows of the birds on utility lines.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a painting of pigeons on the line above where we walk,鈥� Nesdoly explained.
鈥淚 created that during the year, so I decided to submit it to the show.鈥�
Event coordinator Deepika Pandian described New Horizons as a 鈥済olden palette鈥� program for senior artists of all abilities.
鈥淚t happened in the summer, they took up classes and we encouraged them to show some of their work in this exhibition,鈥� Pandian said.
The exhibition continues at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre at 26770 29th Ave. until Jan.31.
