VIDEO: Rescued from ‘high kill’ shelters, dogs find new homes at Aldergrove adoption event

Organized by Our Last Hope Animal Rescue Society

Four of seven dogs left for new homes during an Aldergrove adoption event at the Bosely’s store on Fraser Highway and 264th organized by Our Last Hope Animal Rescue Society on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Chilliwack resident Mike Biemans, who had been pre-approved by the animal rescue group, left with Herman, an energetic three-year-old terrier-Chihuahua cross, who huddled close to his new human.

Bieman explained that when his old dog passed, he knew that he was going to get a rescue.

“I found Herman online and, well, now he’s mine,” Biemans told the 91ԭ Advance Times.

“I’m a firm believer that somehow they know that they’re rescued, and they’re going to be the best dog in the world.”

Jeneane Ruscheinsky, found of Our Last Hope, said the seven small dogs, all Chihuahua mixes like Herman, were rescued from what she described as “high kill shelters” in California.

“They’re all under four years old, so they’ve got a long life ahead of them still.” Ruscheinsky predicted.

“These little dogs can live sometimes up to 20 years old.”

“Several of our attendees this morning [were] pre-approved, so we’ve been working with them for several weeks to find them the perfect match,” Ruscheinsky said.

They were flown in with the assistance of animal rescue organizations, Wings of Rescue and Dog Is My Co-pilot, she explained.

“It takes a lot of people to save these dogs,” Ruscheinsky commented. “It’s not just one rescue [agency].”

A registered non-profit, the animal rescue society is based in Princeton, with a mission statement to “promote, protect, rehabilitate and responsibly re-home society’s discarded companion animals” and “educate pet owners and others about the proper care and well-being of their pets.”

It operates a senior-to-senior program that matches senior pets with senior citizens and also provides a low cost spay and neuter program.
