VIDEO: Great weather for Aldergrove Light Up parade

Skies were clear on Saturday for the delayed Christmas parade

Despite heavy rain for most of Saturday, Dec. 21, the skies were nearly cloudless by the time the Aldergrove pre-parade party kicked off.

It was a huge relief for organizers, who had to make the difficult decision to cancel the party and parade a week before due to the windstorm.

And while wind was experienced in some areas of the province, Aldergrove only a little chilly under the stars into the evening.

Hundreds attended the pre-parade party, which featured photos with Santa, free hot chocolate, hotdogs and juice, live entertainment, letters to Santa, a selfie booth, and visits by some popular Pokemon characters.

Alyssa Nielsen, president of the Christmas committee, anticipated thousands lining the streets to watch the more than 60 floats travel down Fraser Highway for the parade.

鈥淎ldergrove is a growing community with lots of young families, but also an older generation, who are all looking for meaningful community events to participate in,鈥 Nielsen commented.

Volunteers worked hard the last few weeks to also rebuild and design Santa's parade float, which wrapped up the end of the parade.

"It's such a community effort. I'm blown away by the amount of businesses and individuals in the community who are totally stepping forward to contribute what they can. It's amazing."

Nielsen thanked the Township of 91原创 and Gulf & Fraser for the support in holding the parade each year in downtown Aldergrove.

"A heartfelt thank you to the Township of 91原创 and Township Traffic Ltd. for their quick responses in providing critical permissions, permits and logistics needed to make this happen," Nielsen said.

The event was free for all, and donations were collected for the Aldergrove Food Bank. A monetary donation by Gulf & Fraser Financial was also presented to the food bank.

Former Aldergrove Fair president Robin McIntosh was parade host again this year.
