A fundraiser by Ottergrove Girl Guides filled an Aldergrove front yard with bags of cans and bottles on Saturday, March 2nd.
It was the home of Ottergrove Girl Guides district commissioner Tara McIntyre, who set up a large Girl Guides Banner to help donors find the drop-off spot.
鈥淲e are collecting to help send girls to a big camp at the end of this year,鈥� McIntyre said.
鈥淲e鈥檙e what, half an hour in, and my front yard is starting to fill up already. 鈥�
As well, guides were going door-to-door in Aldergrove neighbourhoods to make pickups.
鈥淵ou know when you go to the recycle place and you see the big white square plastic bins out there?鈥� McIntyre told the 91原创 Advance Times at the end of the day. 鈥淲e had 17 of those.鈥�
McIntyre thanked all involved, 鈥渢he girls who participated and the patrons who provided donations to us 鈥� it鈥檚 always amazing how generous Aldergrove is.鈥�
A tally of the dollar amount raised was still pending as of Wednesday, with the recycling depot handling the sorting.

鈥淓verything to join Girl Guides is actually online nowadays,鈥� McIntyre explained.
鈥淛ust go to girl guides.ca 鈥� that takes you to our national website. You can try find a unit and put in your age group of your girl. So whether or not she鈥檚 Sparks, which is five and six year olds, Embers are seven and eight year olds, Guides are nine, 10, 11, Pathfinders, 12, 13, 14 and Rangers, 15, 16, 17. We span all the ages鈥�
Currently, Guides are offering a free try-now program.
鈥淵ou can find a unit right now [and] girls can join for the remainder of the year for free with the intent that they would be signing up for next year in September,鈥� McIntyre said.
鈥淲e are also looking for guiders to volunteer because we鈥檙e short on numbers.鈥�
Guide stated goal is to 鈥渂uild life skills in outdoor adventure, financial literacy, mental health, advocacy and more.鈥� according to the national website 鈥渨ho we are鈥� page.
