VIDEO: A heritage of fun at Murrayville Hall

All ages welcome

It wasn't the turnout organizers were hoping for, but enough people had enough fun at the very first Heritage Week event at Murrayville Hall for hall president Linda Barron to confirm there will be another next year.

"We didn't have as many people as we wanted, but we'll get them next year because we'll make sure that we'll start just a little bit earlier," Barron told the 91Ô´´ Advance Times.

"It was pulled together in  quite a short period of time, and we're looking at going to have something else next year to commemorate it, and it should be lots of fun and we'll give people lots of notice about when it's going to be happening."

Those who did drop by were able to enjoy some good, old-fashioned fun was on display at the hall at 21667 48th Ave. on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Heritage pastimes at the free event included square dancing, a quilters group display and kids play table with colouring contest awards and a cribbage tournament.

The dancers were a high point, Barron said.

"The dancers were wonderful, and the caller was just terrific," Barron enthused. "She had such a wonderful voice, and everyone that participated, from four years old and up, just loved it."

As well, the LSS dry grad committee hosted a hot dog sale.

Barron said the hall is planning more outreach programs such as their Remembrance Day event, to let people know "what a wonderful place it is" for everything from community events to weddings and family celebrations.

"What we're looking to do is to broaden the reach to more of our community members, and we're opening up the doors for the community to see all that the hall has to offer," Barron said.
