Tree chipping starts in 91Ô­´´

No tinsel, no balls, no garland, and no flocking on trees being taken for chipping

Those taking their trees for chipping must remove all decoration. Groups hosting tree chipping events can send the details to datebook@langleyadvancetimes.com.

• 1st Willoughby Scouts: Happens at Willoughby Elementary School, 20766 80 Ave., on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Chipping by donation, minimal $10 donation for drop off and $20 minimal donation for pick up. Contact 604-619-6504 to arrange pickup. Donations are used for camping equipment, food, supplies and fees for various activities.

• 1st Walnut Grove Scouts: Chipping will be at Walnut Grove Secondary School, 8919 Walnut Grove Dr., on  Saturdays, Dec. 28, and Jan. 4, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tree chipping is offered by donation. Pick up is available for a minimum $10 donation per tree, picked up in Walnut Grove. Contact fundraiser@1stwalnutgrovescouts.ca (preferred) or 604-690-8463 with the name, address and phone number. Donations are used to run youth programs which include sending youth to camps, purchasing camping equipment, and other youth activities.

• Alice Brown Elementary: Tree chipping and a bottle drive will happen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the school, 20011 44 Ave. Cans and bottles can be dropped off. All proceeds go to Grade 7 camping trip. Chipping is by donation ($10 minimum recommended). Pick-up available within a five kilometre radius of the school for $10.

• Tree chipping and bottle drive: Rick the Realtor and Lanki Tree Services have an event at Town & Field Church, 20719 48 Ave., on Saturday Jan. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Have trees chipped for a minimum $10 donation. No flocked trees. People can also bring their cans and bottles. Christian Service Brigade helping at the event that will benefit Night Shift Ministries, Hope for Women, and Youth Unlimited.

• Food bank fundraiser: Tim Keis Real Estate Team has chipping at Willoughby Elementary School, 20766 80 Ave., on Saturday, Jan. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chipping offered by donation with funds donated to the 91Ô­´´ Food Bank.

• D.W. Poppy Dry Grad: At D.W. Poppy Secondary School, 23752 52 Ave., people can get trees chipped by donation and donate bottles and cans on Saturday, Jan. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations also via e-transfer to dwpoppydrygrad@gmail.com or cash. Trees can be dropped off or pick up can be arranged. Use the email above or text Natasha at 604-788-3004 to arrange pickup.

• Canadian Cancer Society: Funds raised go to pediatric cancer research at the event on Saturday, Jan. 4 and Sunday, Jan. 5 at Willowbrook Shopping Centre, 19705 Fraser Hwy. Use 197 Street entrance. Happens from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (both days). Chipping is by donation (minimum $10 suggested).

• Brookswood/Fort 91Ô­´´ Scout groups: Tree chipping by donation and beverage can/bottle collection fundraiser is at Brookswood Secondary School, 20902 37A Ave., on Saturday, Jan. 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and supports the group's programs that include camps, jamborees, training, and field trips.
