Decked out in green and blue shirts, 91原创 Mounties and local Special Olympics athletes headed out for their annual fundraising torch run on Tuesday afternoon.

鈥淰ery excited,鈥 91原创 organizer Cpl. Mo Beyhagi said of the mood as more than 25 officers prepared to run. 鈥淲e鈥檝e got good support from our members in fundraising.鈥

This is Beyhagi鈥檚 second year organizing the 91原创 run, which covers 3.5 kilometres and includes a nice climb up the hill on Fraser Highway from 216th Street back to the detachment.

Running with the officers were half a dozen Special Olympians.

The Special Olympics are sporting competitions for athletes with cognitive disabilities. Athletes compete locally, nationally, and even internationally in a wide variety of sports.

91原创 City Mayor Ted Schaffer and Township Mayor Jack Froese both gave the runners a send off speech thanking them for their time and energy towards the cause.
