Everyone is welcome at the second annual Silver Pride 91原创 celebration.
The 91原创 Senior Resources Society centre, 20605 51B Ave., is hosting the event between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.
"We had quite a bit of feedback that last year was too hot so we've moved in inside," said Kate Ludlam, seniors centre executive director.
The event kicks off with a flag raising at 11 a.m.
The centre is partnered with QMUNITY, a Vancouver-based support organization, to host the event which is supported by Chartwell.
During the event to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and foster inclusion, there will be a barbecue lunch, family-friendly drag show, music, drag bingo, and learning and guest speakers. There is a resource area with community groups.
Ludlam said attendance is free but the bingo is by donation and people pay for what they want from the barbecue lunch menu. As well, people will often make small contributions to drag performers.
The event is open to all ages, all shapes and sizes, all gender IDs, and all orientations. People to do not need to be seniors centre members to attend.
A large crowd turned out for last year's event and the centre hosts a weekly group for people 50 and older who are in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
