A robbery at a large retail store in South Surrey led to a police chase, car crashes and finally, the arrest of four suspects.
On Wednesday (April 9) afternoon around 12:45 p.m., a male and female exited a store in the 2500-block of 160 Street in Surrey with a shopping cart full of tools not paid for, according to a press release from Surrey Police. According to a Black Press freelance photographer, Home Depot in South Surrey was targeted by the robbery.
"When confronted by a staff member, the male suspect produced a handgun, and the pair fled in a blue Toyota Matrix," police state.
Surrey Police and Surrey RCMP's Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit began investigated the following day after receiving reports of a suspect vehicle in 91原创. Along with police dogs, a police helicopter and officers from both Surrey and 91原创, investigators worked together to stop the suspect vehicle.
"Unfortunately, these attempts were unsuccessful, and the suspect vehicle was ultimately involved in a collision at 200th Street and 36th Avenue," the release continues.
"The collision involved the suspect vehicle and police vehicles."
Another collision occurred at the scene also, between an unrelated civilian who is suspected of impaired driving and a police vehicle. The civilian is under investigation, SPS state.
Investigations into the robbery and following incidents continue while four individuals from the crash scene were arrested. Additionally, two police officers were taken to hospital and one suspect received treatment for injuries not related to the crash, police added.
