91Ô´´ Senior Resources Society (LSRS) hopes to begin offering neighbourhood-based programs in three 91Ô´´ communities, Aldergrove, Fort 91Ô´´ and Walnut Grove some time in the new year.
Kate Ludlam, LSRS executive director, described it as a "very ambitious strategic plan," approved by the directors of the society, which operates the recreation and resource centre and an adult day program at two 91Ô´´ City locations.
It's based on surveys and interviews with members, volunteers, staff and community partners, Ludlam explained.
"We asked some questions about what they thought of the organization, what we were not doing, and what we should be doing," Ludlam told the 91Ô´´ Advance Times.
"People really wanted us to be delivering programs and services out into the neighbourhoods of 91Ô´´, not always at our rec centre. So with that goal in mind, we've identified three neighbourhoods in 91Ô´´ that we're going to focus on and see if we can deliver programs and services there."
They hope to start in Aldergrove.
"We're looking at partnering with an organization for a space so that we can deliver community services [in Aldergrove]," Ludlam said.
"We have a lot of community service clients there, and it would be easier for them if we sent staff out to take appointments with them in Aldergrove rather than having them always come to the centre for appointments."
LSRS has been speaking with a potential community partner in Fort 91Ô´´, Ludlam said.
"We're just talking to them about what we could offer in that space. It could be fitness classes, which are very popular here [at the 91Ô´´ City centre]. We always sell them out. It could be a card group, it could be one of our social clubs, it could be a caregiver support group, we're not quite sure yet. We're trying to gather information from our members, what they would like to see in Fort 91Ô´´, and what they would come to."
Ludlam said it's too soon in the planning process to say exactly when the services might begin.
"We don't have a start date because we just feel like we're a bit too early" Ludlam remarked.
"We're still gathering information, and we haven't really locked down the use of the space yet. Probably by spring we'll be able to make an announcement.
"We're just doing our background conversations to make sure that we get it right. Because we want to make sure that whatever we're delivering is what our seniors, our members in that neighbourhood, would like."
