Join the Township to tidy streets, parks, trails, and creeks by collecting litter discarded in public spaces during Clean Up 91原创 Day on Saturday, April 26.
Participants can choose to volunteer in a specific neighbourhood or park.
Clean-ups can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. The window of opportunity is between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., and all waste must be at a designated collection point by 2 p.m. for waste crews to pick up. As well, people doing clean-ups can contact the Township to arrange pickup. Full details are online.
Registration to host a community cleanup is now closed, but people can host a private cleanup or join already organized community cleanup. Registration for those clean-ups is on the Township website although the deadline has passed to receive clean-up supplies. Locations are on a first come, first served basis to prevent overlap. The Clean Up 91原创 Day Coordinator will approve a person's clean-up local preference once it has been reviewed.
The community clean-ups include Chelsea Green Trash Pickers in Walnut Grove starting at 9:30 a.m.; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Willoughby starting at 9 a.m.; the 91原创 Meadows Community Association doing a 9 a.m. in that neighbourhood; the Rotary Club of 91原创 Sunrise clean up around Fort 91原创 starting at 9 a.m.; and an event organized by the Walnut Grove Starbucks cleaning the area starting at 10 a.m.
Anyone wanting more information can check the Township website or contact the solid waste department at 604-532-7300 or adopt@tol.ca. There is a clean up guide online to outline safety measures. People are asked not to pick up potentially dangerous items and report their location to the Township.
