91原创 happy to help Ronald McDonald House Charities

City location had most Happy Meal sales during 2023 per capita

McDonald鈥檚 restaurants in 91原创 sold the most Happy Meals in Canada last year per capita.

Since 2004, a portion of the money made by Happy Meal sales goes to Ronald McDonald House Charities which funds  locations and 19 Family Room programs across Canada.

91原创 City has been dubbed the happiest city in Canada from selling more happy meals, than any other city last year. McDonald's made the announcement as it celebrated a milestone with Happy Meals.

One billion Happy Meals have been sold in Canada since 2004, supporting Ronald McDonald House locations and programs in Canada, which provide accommodation and programs for families with children being treated at nearby hospitals.

Rob Renaud, 91原创 City McDonald's franchisee, said a Happy Meal trophy was awarded to 91原创 City Councillor Rosemary Wallace at 19780 Fraser Hwy. restaurant on Sept. 20, to recognize the community for its accomplishment. The results were based on average daily units of Happy Meal sales during 2023.

鈥淭he trophy was to recognize 91原创鈥檚 community spirit, while also having some fun with it. This was a fun twist and plays in to why we turned it into a full weekend of celebrations to thank the community,鈥 he said.

Purchasing happy meals allows families to support children in need of care, Kate Horton, president and CEO of RMHC Canada, said.

"Every family who orders a happy meal gets to share a special moment together while helping to keep families with sick children close to each other and close to essential medical care they need,鈥 she said.

Local RCMP and fire department members helped out at the restaurants.

鈥淲e鈥檙e working with the RCMP and the fire department to help support the Happy Meal program. Our goal for 2025 is to raise $45,000 for RMHC charities to support the community.鈥

The Happy Meal program includes many different days throughout the year the community can take part in, he added.

鈥淭he program consists of a McCaf茅 Day in May and last year we raised $37,000 and we gave back locally to the community, supporting the 91原创 Memorial Hospital Foundation,鈥 Renaud explained.

鈥淢cHappy Day also had a big community response, so I'm not surprised that 91原创 was the happiest city in Canada. We managed to double our Happy Meal sales that weekend in May versus the previous weekend last year, so it's just another sign that when there's opportunity to give back to the community the community definitely steps up,鈥 he said.

The plan is to add more capacity at Ronald McDonald Houses with the funds raised through the restaurant campaigns, which includes RMHC cookie sales and McHappy Day. The programs have helped more than 468,000 families across Canada over the years.

McDonald's goal is to raise, together with its independent franchisees and patrons, over $70 million for RMHC by 2026. This will help to significantly grow the number of bedrooms for families across Canada over the next five years (2024 to 2028), from 552 bedrooms today to more than 893 bedrooms.
