Hundreds of people are expected for 91原创 Child Day, this time being held at R.E. Mountain Secondary in Willoughby on Saturday, May 4.

The event is a one-stop shopping opportunity for parents to be able to find out about the services and amenities available in the community to families with small children. There鈥檚 information booths, displays, a marketplace, activities, door prizes, giveaways, and more.

The 91原创 School District is sponsoring this event through the Strengthening Early Years to Kindergarten Transitions (SEY2KT) initiative that focuses on collaboration and strengthening of relationship across the education and early years sectors.

鈥淐hild Day provides an opportunity for families to connect with local agencies that provide information, supports and resources in our community,鈥 said Alicia Stark, 91原创 Early Years family navigator and an organizer. 鈥淭he vendor marketplace will highlight some of our local businesses that provide services and products to families. There will be lots of activities and entertainment to keep the little ones entertained while parents have a chance to gather information.鈥

The information and services at child day are geared to youngsters five and younger, but families are welcome to bring older siblings since organizers know childminding can be an issue. Admission is free, but organizers would like people to register in advance at /www.tickettailor.com/events/inclusionlangleysociety/1132914#.

There鈥檚 amenities on site during child day, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 4, so parents can keep the kids entertained and fed. The space is child and baby friendly as the event is catered to this age group. The school, 7633 202A St., is accessible to strollers and assistive equipment, Stark noted.

Entertaining the crowd will be Chris Hamilton of Music For Kids. The musical entertainer will be doing three 30-minute music sets. Tumble Kids Preschool and 91原创 School District StrongStart Program will have play areas set up. Outside will be 91原创 BMX, Happy Pandas Rides, children鈥檚 mascots Luigi, Chase and Geoffrey the Giraffe from Toy R Us 91原创, and BC Ambulance Service. Register for a panda ride at happypandarices.ca.

鈥淲e will also have a coffee truck on-site Hurley Coffee and R.E. Mountain students from the drama department and golf team will be running a concession outside,鈥 she noted.

Feedback from members of the public, vendors and others attending has been positive for the popular event. More than 600 people attended the last 91原创 Child Day.

鈥淐hild Day has grown each year we have hosted,鈥 Stark noted. 鈥淲e started with 91原创 Baby Day in 2018 and grew to 91原创 Child Day in 2019. We had to take a break from 2020 to 2022 and came back in 2023 with two Child Day events in May and September.鈥
