The judges have spoken, and the winning perogy is the hot dog filling by Aldergrove Community Secondary student Jaden.

He was one of three finalists in a contest to create a perogy filling, a joint project between teacher Lindsay Lloyd and Veronica Cave, owner of Veronica鈥檚 Gourmet Perogies. A judging panel of judges Carlo Bonetti, Jason Froese, and Charlie Fox will choose the winner at an event Thursday, April 25.

Now the public can try the novel flavours (hot dogs, Shepherd鈥檚 pie, and spicy Jamaican).

鈥淛aden will be showcasing his 鈥楶igs in a Rogie鈥� on Saturday, May 4, 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. Sampling and selling frozen,鈥� Cave said. 鈥淲e want him to sell out, so as much community support the better. Ten per cent of the sales of his perogy for the month of May is being returned back to him. We will be stocked up all month with his Pigs in a Rogie.鈥�

As winner of the contest, he receives $100 from the restaurant, swag from the 91原创 School District, and a black Veronica鈥檚 Perogies apron.

But the public won鈥檛 be left out from tasting the fillings of the other two finalists.

鈥淭he runner ups, we felt to do something for them so we have booked them in for the next few Saturdays to also receive 10 per cent of the sales for that day on their perogies. So it will be a limited feature for that day,鈥� Cave said.

And the school wants to support the students so the principal is picking up perogies to host a tasting party for teachers in mid-May, she added.
