Heritage exhibit opens at 91原创 Arts Council

Annual 'My Heritage' exhibit on display until April 16

91原创 Arts Council's annual heritage exhibit is now on display at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre.

Diane Gendron, president of the council's board of directors, began the opening reception by sharing some of her story on March 1.

"My grandfather came over from Scotland when he was nine years old on a ship with a bunch of other children in 1880, and he was indentured into a farm in Canada," she shared.

"And he then managed to make a living for himself, and here I am," Gendron chuckled.

The opening reception included around half a dozen artists, whose artwork is on display, in a roundtable discussion, and live music performed by Gabriel Regehr.

Deepika Pandian, events coordinator, said the 'My Heritage' exhibition highlights the cultural differences, customs, stories, and traditions that make us unique.

"Through this exploration of culture, we hope to highlight the shared human experiences of belonging, resilience, family, community, and connection," she told The Star.

One artist's artwork on display is 13-year-old Jerry Liu, who loves drawing and hopes to improve his work and meet more young artists.

'My Heritage' exhibit is on display until April 16.

Kinsmen is located at 26770 29 Ave.
