People can kick off Earth Month by getting some dirt under their nails.
The Lower Mainland Green Team and the Township of 91Ô´´ are kicking off Earth Month with a community habitat restoration activity at Routley Park on Saturday, April 12.
"With 25-plus people signed up to join us, we have space for many more to make a difference at this local park," said Aston Kerr, Lower Mainland Green Team partnership manager.
This activity runs 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., and brings together community members of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and experience levels to work together in removing invasive Himalayan blackberry, helping to enhance the health, function, and beauty of Routley Park, while also providing participants with the physical and mental benefits of outdoor activity and community connection.
"We invite anyone and everyone to join us," she said. "Youth, seniors, working professionals, families with young children, students, singles, groups... Come join us for a meaningful day of community building, outdoor activity, and fun."
No experience is needed to participate, and all ages, abilities and backgrounds are invited to join. Educational instruction, gloves, tools and snacks are provided. The park is in the 91Ô´´ Meadows area.
Those interested in participating can find more information and sign up on at or by emailing max@greenteamscanada.ca. This activity will take place rain or shine, Kerr noted.
"This isn’t just a day in the park – it’s a chance to connect, learn, and thrive. By taking part, you will meet new people, become part of a welcoming community, and learn about local environmental issues – and do something about them -– in a hands-on way. Whether you’re looking to boost your well-being, get some fresh air and exercise, gain volunteer hours, or simply spend time outdoors with others who care, this activity offers something for everyone. It’s a simple, powerful way to feel good and do good," she added.
This activity is a partnership between Green Teams of Canada (GTC), and the Township. The Lower Mainland Green Team is part of GTC.
This is the first of nine activities the team is organizing in partnership with the Township this year, Kerr noted.
