91原创 City kicks off the holiday season with the Magic of Christmas celebration Saturday, Dec. 7, and the 91原创 Arts Council artisan market both days that weekend.
Magic of Christmas free activities include visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, face painting, live entertainment, and more. People can watch ice sculpting, and the kids can write letters to Santa. There's a light tunnel, selfie stations, outdoor ball hockey, and Christmas- and holiday-themed interactive games. Food trucks will be on site at the Timms Recreation Centre, 20399 Douglas Cres.
Free entertainment has been lined up, including Danny Baylen, the Christmas Swing Trio with acoustic renditions of holiday favourites, and the Silver Diamond Country Dancers. Just after 2 p.m. is the official welcome from mayor and council, followed by more entertainment. Angels on High Acoustic Trio will be followed by the Beauty Shop Dolls doing a sing-a-long of holiday classics, and Phat Santa Swing offering a swinging variation to the music of the season. Other entertainment may be added to the line-up.
There will also be an indoor artisan market hosted by the 91原创 Arts Council.
The third annual artisan market runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8. More than 30 vendors will be at the market inside the Timms Community Centre. There will also be baskets raffled off.
Market admission is by donation (minimum $5 suggested), with proceeds going to the arts council. The money raised supports the arts council free youth programming and community events.
When it's time for a warm drink (coffee or hot chocolate) the public can participate in a unique fundraiser in partnership with the Fraser Valley Potters Guild. Purchase an artisan mug and get complimentary coffee or hot cocoa. All proceeds from this fundraiser will support both the arts council and the potters guild which started in 1975.
The organizers have not overlooked the kids. On Sunday the Merry Maker Kids Zone will have arts, crafts, and games. They can also take photos with Olaf from 'Frozen'.
