The 91原创 City library branch is the site of a Nov. 2 celebration devoted to welcoming light over darkness, a metaphor for good triumphing over evil.
The public is invited to celebrate Diwali which is the most widely celebrated festival in the Indian culture. The date of Diwali moves dependent on the position of the moon. This year, the big celebration is at the end of October.
The library branch is holding an event on the nearest weekend so the festival of lights activities will be on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Diwali, which means 鈥渁 row of lights,鈥 marks the victory of good over evil and the beginning of the New Year in India, explained Dr. Sarwan Singh Randhawa, library manager.
The celebration will include crafts, face painting, Mehndi (henna art), music and dance, displays, and treats. The public can also learn a few basic steps of Punjabi folk dancing called Bhangra.
All Diwali activities are drop-in, free, and open to the public.
