91原创 fundraising gala raises $215,000

Funds will help the organizers buy a hi-tech incubator for the local hospital

91原创 Memorial Hospital Foundation鈥檚 annual fundraising gala exceeded expectations 鈥 organizers will soon be able to purchase a hi-tech incubator, for which there they were raising money.

City and Township mayors were among those who participated in the Giving Hearts fundraising gala with about 290 other guests at the March 5 event.

鈥淭he event was a huge success. Everyone had a wonderful time,鈥 said Terra Scheer, communications manager at the hospital foundation.

Four 鈥榙inner with the mayor鈥 packages were sold at $6,500 each along with two other packages. The 鈥榙inner at the Indian Affair鈥 package was auction-off at above-asking value, and the a 鈥榟elicopter tour package鈥 went for $5,000.

The fundraiser night started with a $20,000 donation from an anonymous donor.

Azim Jamal, motivational speaker and author of the book, The Power of Giving was the keynote speaker at the annual fundraiser.

As of Tuesday, Scheer was able to confirm that $215,000 was raised, which is enough to buy the incubator.

鈥淥ur future lives with our youth. That鈥檚 why we wanted to raise money for our youngest community members,鈥 said gala founder and co-chair Manjit Gill.

With this success, the Giving Hearts community has raised more than $565,000 in support of health care at 91原创 Memorial Hospital since the gala鈥檚 inception in 2019.

Scheer thanked the participants and said that the event was community-driven. Sheila Reimer, events manager, too expressed her gratitude and thanked attendees for their 鈥済ift of time, advocacy, and leadership in supporting local health care improvements.鈥

鈥淓veryone did such a wonderful job inspiring everyone that night. We are really appreciative of how the community rallied and came back to the event to support health care,鈥 Scheer concluded.

The hospital foundation鈥檚 next event, 鈥楳onet鈥檚 Garden Spring Gala鈥 will take place on May 14 at Coast Hotel and Convention Centre in 91原创.

Also on tap, in benefit of the hospital, is the 鈥楬ope Grows Here Charity Gala,鈥 which will take place on March 26. The charity event will be hosted by 91原创 City Mayor Val van den Broek and proceeds from the event will go towards the construction of Foundry 91原创, a youth wellness centre.
