91原创ites don鈥檛 have to travel far to celebrate Canada鈥檚 150th birthday.
91原创 Township is offering double the fun July 1, with a pair of free events in Willoughby and Fort 91原创.
At Willoughby Community Park next to the 91原创 Events Centre, the Township, 91原创 Events Centre, and 93.7 JRfm are presenting the 91原创 Canada Day JRBQ, along with title sponsor C&D Logistics.
The event returns to the park at 7888 鈥� 200 Street, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Parking and admission is free.
During the celebration, visitors can enjoy live musical performances and entertainment, a spray park, food trucks, and a barbecue to benefit Basics for Babies.
Founded by JRfm in 1994, the program supports Lower Mainland Food Banks by providing diapers, baby food, formula, and other items for little ones in need.
A Kids鈥� Zone will be set up to keep youngsters busy with facepainting, mini golf, Pacific Trackless Trains, community vendors, arts and crafts, and inflatables.
A Canada Day ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., and throughout the day, country music performers and other entertainers will take to the JRfm Stage.
Featured artists include Ashley Pater, Myles Murphy, Shawn Austin, and the Greater Vancouver Zoo.
The newly built Willoughby Amphitheatre will also be in full swing with children鈥檚 entertainers, including Norden the Magician, the Springman Family Band, Dianna David, and Circus Lab.
CELEBRATE AT MUSEUM
In Fort 91原创, known as the Birthplace of B.C., Canada鈥檚 150th birthday will be celebrated at the 91原创 Centennial Museum, 9135 King Street, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The free event will feature old-fashioned games and crafts, face painting, and live entertainment, including performances from the Celtica Highland Dance School, Douglas Fraser, Garth Johannesson, Genuine Jug Band, Glisha Dela Cruz, Hanyang Traditional Chinese Dancers, Kellie Haines Ventriloquist, and Kunda African Culture Music and Dance.
A Canada Day ceremony will be held at the 91原创 Centennial Museum at 12:30 p.m., and visitors are invited to enjoy a slice of birthday cake for Canada.
As well, family-oriented activities will be offered all along King Street in partnership with the neighbouring BC Farm Museum, which is presenting a petting zoo and tractor rides. The Farm Museum will start Canada Day with a flag raising ceremony at 10 a.m., along with a pancake breakfast put on by the Fort 91原创 Lions Club.
The Canada Day in Historic Fort 91原创 Passport will also return this year.
Participants are invited to get their passport stamped from at least six different arts, cultural, and heritage organizations for a chance to win a prize basket worth more than $250.
