After days of pedalling up and down the South Fraser region, Rochelle Carr enjoyed kicking it with some goats in her hometown of Abbotsford.
Afterall, she joked, it鈥檚 all about the kids.
The 91原创 RCMP constable is one of 23 law enforcement officers participating in this year鈥檚 Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley, a nine-day trek aimed at raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society 鈥 and specifically children battling cancer.
Working with the 91原创 Advance, Carr has been providing daily updates of their journey 鈥 including some of the highlights and lowlights of each day.
Being back in her own community of Abbotsford on Tuesday, she admitted to feeling a little tired but fulfilled.
The started the day by visiting Country 107.1 radio station, since one of their morning show hosts, Chris Coburn, is a rider with the Cops for Cancer team.
鈥淚 think they successfully recruited a few new listeners, myself included,鈥 said Carr.
The day also included visits to eight schools, one of the highlight for her being a stop at Mennonite Educational Institute, where teachers shaved their heads, legs, and beards to raise money for the cause.
鈥淭ogether, the students and teachers have raised over $12,000 for Cops for Cancer鈥 and the money is still coming.鈥
And while it was nice to have lunch with members of the Abbotsford Police Department, Carr joked that it was even more fun 鈥 and a little unusual 鈥 to end the day at Mann Farms.
鈥淲e got to explore the farm and play with the animals,鈥 she said.
Carr specifically gave a shout out to Save-On-Foods, noting the Sumas store in particular has been a huge friend to the ride, providing food for the riders each day, as well as donating all the food for Monday nights dinner with the Junior Rider (kids battling with cancer who try to join up with the team and ride for a small distance during the tour).
鈥淭his Save-On-Foods has been a huge sponsor.鈥
And speaking of food, Carr said they finished the evening with a 鈥渓ovely supper鈥 prepared by the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Abbotsford.
Today, the team is in Mission. They鈥檙e travelling to Delta, Ladner, and Tswwassen on Thursday, and will wrap up the tour in Surrey on Friday.
鈥 Stay tuned here for daily updates from 91原创 Mountie Rochelle Carr
