After a successful trial show last year, the annual Old Farts Car Club (OFCC) 鈥渇ight against cancer car show鈥 will return to the Royal Canadian Legion鈥檚 Aldergrove branch Sunday, July 16, with cool cars, food, a raffle and more from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Organizer Martin Chapman said the legion was supportive after agreeing to let the show set up in their parking lot.
鈥淭hey saw how hard we worked, and what we did,鈥 Chapman told the 91原创 Advance Times.
Even though the first show at the legion was smaller than previous events, with 40 cars taking part, it still managed to raise $5,700 last year to help the family of a two-year-old-boy with liver cancer, reported Chapman.
A post on the OFFC Facebook page introduced one of this year鈥檚 recipients, a dad who beat cancer once and is aiming to beat it again after its recent return.
鈥淲e鈥檝e got two people lined up [as beneficiaries],鈥 disclosed Chapman, who is predicting a bigger and better version of the event this year.
More and more donations have been arriving as the event draws closer, both cash and raffle prizes, he explained.
Among the larger raffle items are four worth more than $4,000 combined 鈥 two fire tables donated by Northwest Stoves, two seasons passes to Mission Raceway for 2024, and an eight-burner grill.
Raffle tickets are one for $10, or three for $20, capped at 2,000. Entry fee for cars is $20.
OFCC moved the annual car show and fundraiser from 91原创 City to the Aldergrove legion because of what Chapman described as 鈥減arking issues鈥 at the shopping centre where the cars used to congregate.
Chapman noted the legion hosted car shows in the past, with 鈥渦p to 150 filling the lot.鈥
Held to help cover expenses for cancer patients, the annual car show fundraiser is scheduled every year on the weekend closest to July 13, the birthday of Godfrey Hamon, an original member of the OFCC, who died from cancer in 2018 - soon after he was diagnosed.
