This year marked the sixth in a row that Western Family has teamed up with Save-On-Foods to support those in their communities who need it most 鈥� and staff at the Aldergrove鈥檚 store are celebrating hitting their fundraising goal.

The annual Western Share It Forward event ran for seven days, from May 25 to 31.

Participating was very simple.

For every Western Family product sold, 50 per cent of net proceeds went to local food banks.

Those products were sold either online or in-store at any Save-On-Foods, PriceSmart Foods, and Urban Fare.

All funds are donated back to the communities where they were raised.

Save-On-Foods Aldergrove has taken part in the Share It Forward campaign since the initial event in 2018, and the store is well known to help ensure funds for local food banks in the community.

Share it Forward has generated more than $1.7 million for local food banks since it began. This year, the goal was to raise $300,000.

The Aldergrove store is also a part of a surplus food recovery initiative, called the Loop program, explained Save-OnFoods internal communications specialist Christina Marchand.

鈥淭hey also donate to Meals on Wheels and are sponsoring Meat in the Street,鈥� Marchand said.

鈥淲e are happy to say that we met this year鈥檚 goal鈥� thanks to our generous customers and team members,鈥� said Marchand.

Every year, Save-On-Foods donates $3 million worth of food and consumer goods to local food banks, as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash raised through community and store fundraisers.
