Warriors golden in California

Short on major tournament experience, the Westcoast Warriors made up for that with effort and desire.

The squirt (12 and under) roller hockey team was in California for the North American Roller hockey championships (NARCh) Winternationals at the Silver Creek Sportsplex in San Jose.

The Warriors went 2-1 in the round robin — beating Mission Rampage 6-2 and 6-1 over the Junior Thunder before losing 5-2 to the Bauer Riot — to earn the fifth seed for the playoffs.

The Canadian side scored a 3-0 victory over the Silicon Valley Quakes in the semifinals to set up a gold medal game against the hometown Norcal Extreme.

And the Warriors would not be denied the championship, scoring two insurance markers for the 4-1 victory.

The Warriors bantam (16 and under) squad was also victorious in their age group.

The Warriors were perfect through the round robin — 7-0 over the Revision Mustangs, 8-2 over the Junior Thunder and 4-3 against Norcal Elite — to earn the No. 1 seed.

Westside earned a spot in the championship with a 4-2 win over Rink Rat Mission.

Facing the West Covina High Rollers for the gold medal, the game was a nail biter. But thanks to some strong defensive play from the entire lineup, the Warriors prevailed 2-1.
