The Walnut Grove Gators are through to the main draw of the Fraser Valley championships.The Gators Grade 8 girls' basketball team, the runner-up at the 91原创 District championships to Brookswood, earned a spot in the final eight by winning a low-scoring game, 28-11 over Surrey's Khalsa School on Thursday night.Walnut Grove, which was seeded 12th out of the 32 teams, won their opener on Tuesday, 53-31 over Lord Tweedsmuir.91原创's other representative in the tournament was not as fortunate, as the Brookswood Bobcats lost 45-28 to the Fraser Heights Firehawks.The Bobcats, who defeated Walnut Grove in the district final, were the third seed and they won their opening game, 77-30 over the Sands Scorpions.Two other 91原创 schools lost in the opening round: H.D. Stafford lost 62-7 to Holy Cross and 91原创 Christian was defeated 40-13 against Maple Ridge.Walnut Grove plays Maple Ridge in the quarter-finals on Friday (Feb. 25) at 5 p.m.The Fraser Valleys run all weekend, with the majority of the games at Walnut Grove Secondary.Grade 8 boys Fraser ValleysThe Walnut Grove Gators, seeded second out of 32 teams, were upset in the round of 16.The Gators lost a heartbreaker, 43-41 against Pacific Academy, on Thursday night at Walnut Grove Secondary. The Gators won their opening round match 59-14 against Mt. Sleese.Neither of the other three local schools in the tournament advanced past the first round.Brookswood lost 42-40 to Tamanawis; 91原创 Fundamental fell 61-30 to Vedder; and Betty Gilbert lost 64-17 to Pitt Meadows.
