Saturday's windstorm nearly cancelled the Vancouver Giants teddy bear toss.
On Dec. 14., with Environment Canada reporting wind gusts of up 78 km/h at Vancouver International Airport, the electricity went out at 91Ô´´ Events Centre. The stormy weather delayed the arrival of the Victoria Royals by ferry for the game.
But power was restored in time, and Victoria finally made it, late, for a delayed start just after 8 p.m.
It was a rematch for the two teams, with Vancouver looking for some payback after the previous night's 4-0 shutout in Victoria during the two teams first meeting of the season.
In the first period, Tyler Thorpe triggered a barrage of furry toys with a power play goal on a quick release from the slot, then scored again five minutes later.

Royals replied by scoring three in a row to take the lead, before Colton Alain got his first career WHL goal to tie it 3-3.
Going into the third period, the Royals scored two quick third period goals to take the lead, and one more on an empty net for a 6-3 win.

Friday's game saw Victoria get goals late in the first and second periods, before increasing their lead early in the third.
Giants associate coach Adam Maglio called it "disappointing," coming off what he called two of the Giant's "better" games in Tri-Cities and Portland.
"I thought first and foremost we got out-competed [Friday]," Maglio said post-game.
"On the walls; we weren't moving our feet on the forecheck; our puck management through the neutral zone [was poor]. That was a good Victoria team. I didn't think we rose to the occasion at all, which typically, with this group ... we've been resilient and we've come back from deficits throughout the year, especially early on in the year where we were getting scored on first often, we'd find a way to claw back in games and I just felt tonight we didn't have it.
