Vancouver FC fell 2-0 to York United in their first game of the season, at home in Willoughby Community Park

Heading into their first game of the new season at 91原创's Willoughby Community Park on Sunday, Vancouver FC was trying to improve on the league鈥檚 worst home record, which saw the team get just five points in their last nine home games of 2024.

But it was not to be. Visiting York United were the winners, 2-0, courtesy of Julian Altobelli, who scooped up a loose ball in the box and sent it into the roof of the VFC net for his first CPL goal, then scored again, making a shot from a tight angle, curling it into the top corner.

Vancouver FC head coach Afshin Ghotbi said the team was over-eager.

鈥淚 think the problem we had, especially in the first and early in the second half, is that when we had the ball, sometimes we were too eager to move it forward, and we lost it way too quickly, and then it created some dangerous transitional moments" Ghotbi commented. "I think we can show more composure.鈥

Up next, VFC will host Atl茅tico Ottawa on Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m.
