Vancouver Giants downed Everett Silvertips 4-3 Saturday, Sept. 22. Giants Tyler Thorpe (right) and Silvertips Lukas Kaplan (left) lined up for a face-off last season.

Everett Silverips outshot Vancouver Giants 40-25, but couldn't get enough pucks past goaltender Burke Hood, who made his Western Hockey League debut Saturday, Sept. 21 in a game-winning turn that gave the G-men their second regular season win in a row.

It was a 4-3 road victory, with Hood making 37 saves.

Cameron Schmidt had another two-goal performance for the Vancouver Giants, while Aaron Obobaifo and Jakob Oreskovic scored the other goals for the Giants.

Kyren Gronick had another two-assist performance.

The Silvertips got goals from Tyler MacKenzie, Carter Bear and Julien Maze.

"It felt unreal," Hood said afterwards, calling it a "good first game to have."

It was an unreal atmosphere and really good to get that win under my belt," Hood said.

"[IO was] a little bit nervous, but my mindset going in was 'I know what I can do; I know I'm going to come up with the win.' Keep my confidence up...I watched the playoffs last year. It was pretty intense. [Tonight] wasn't as loud as the playoffs obviously, but it was still pretty good, pretty loud."

Much of the noise was generated by another debut, that of Everett player Landon Dupont – who is just the second-ever WHL player to receive exceptional status to play in the league full-time at 15. Dupont assisted on one play for his first WHL point.

Kyren Gronick said Vancouver players knew the building was going to be noisy with Dupont coming .

"We knew it was going to be loud and we talked before the game and said 'hey, let's push the pace here tonight' and I think that's what we did," Gronick said.

Hood was "an unbelievable guy," Gronick added.

"He was our backbone for most of the game. He stood on his head, let's put it that way."

Next up, Giants host Prince George Cougars on Friday, Sept. 27 at the 91Ô´´ Events Centre.Puck drops at 7 p.m.
