Vancouver Giants have acquired 2003-born defenceman Wyatt Wilson from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for 2003-born forward Skyler Bruce.

The deal was announced Friday, Oct. 20.

Oil Kings had just claimed Wilson off WHL waivers from the Wenatchee Wild.

鈥淲yatt is a hard-nosed defenceman who will add grit to our lineup and make us harder to play against,鈥� Giants General Manager Barclay Parneta said.

Wilson was playing for the Winnipeg ICE back when the club was sold and relocated to Wenatchee in mid-June, removing him from the WHL eastern conference where his younger brother Anthony was playing with the Brandon Wheat Kings, and where the two siblings had played against each other.

In an online profile , Wyatt talked about facing off with his brother.

鈥淲e had fun playing against each other,鈥� Wyatt said.

鈥淕rowing up, we were super competitive 鈥� if it was a tie, it usually ended up in a fight. That rivalry has always been there.鈥�

Last year, Wyatt suffered a leg injury that kept him out of the action for four months.

In announcing the Wilson deal, the Giants thanked the departing Bruce for his contributions to the team over the last 10 months and wished him well with the Oil Kings.

Bruce was one of three three 20-year-olds remaining on the Giants roster, with defenceman Logen Hammett and goaltender Brett Mirwald, after Carson Haynes was released at the 20-year cutdown deadline.

He tallied two points (1G, 1A) in three games this season with the Giants.
