With the final Canada West playoff berth on the line, the Trinity Western Spartans broke the hearts of the hometown Calgary Dinos.

Daniel Lowen scored in stoppage time for the game's only goal in a 1-0 victory which sent the Spartans into the Canada West final four championships this weekend in Victoria.

The Spartans needed just a single point while the Dinos had to get the full three from a victory.

"There were some tense moments in the end when they threw everything at us, but our boys played like a band of brothers; they played for each other and played together," said Spartans coach Pat Rohla.

"I'm really proud of our back-line. They played strong and as a unit.

"They stood up and played with maturity and held our team together."

The Spartans also defeated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 1-0 on Saturday, with Goran Vitic's goal in the seventh minute standing up as the winner.

The weekend results gave Trinity Western an 8-4-2 record on the season and  they also vaulted past the Alberta Golden Bears for third place.

They face the UBC Thunderbirds in one of the Canada West semifinals this weekend while top-seed Victoria faces Alberta in the other.

Victoria is guaranteed a spot at the CIS national championships as the host team. One other berth is up for grabs between Trinity Western, UBC and Alberta.
