TWU soccer: Spartan women win Cup for first time

The Trinity Western Spartans won the Keg Spring Cup for the first time.

The women’s soccer team got goals from Melissa Mobilio in the ninth minute and Daniela Gerig in the 22nd minute as they topped UBC 2-0 in the championship final on Sunday afternoon at Victoria’s Centennial Stadium.

The Spartans had tied for third in their previous three trips to the annual tournament.

Trinity Western did not allow a single goal over the two games as they also beat the Victoria Vikes by a 2-0 score.

The Spartans spring season continues tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m. as they host the FISU All-Stars — a team featuring some of the top university players in Canada — and then Seattle Pacific on Saturday (10 a.m.) in a pair of 60-minute games.

They also host the Vancouver Whitecaps on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
