The Trinity Western Spartans were 33 seconds away from earning all four points over the weekend, but the Okanagan College scored the equalizer to force a 3-3 tie on Sunday at the 91原创 Events Centre.
The Spartans men's hockey team did pick up their first win of the season on Saturday, 3-1 over the Selkirk College Saints, picking up three of a possible four points after an 0-5 start to the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Trinity Western was a little lucky to pick up the single point after getting outshot 52-32.
"Anytime you get doubled in shots, you're going to get yourself in trouble," said coach Dwayne Lowdermilk.
Goaltender Tim Zwiers was 91原创enal in goal, delivering a 49-save performance.
The Spartans trailed 2-0 after one period after the Coyotes struck for a pair of goals from Chris Glen and Dave Mann 32 seconds apart.
But Trinity Western showed their quick-strike offence, getting goals from Scott Holmes and Jordan Magnuson 17 seconds apart in the middle period.
Trevor Beaupre gave the Spartans their first lead with 1:51 remaining after banging home a rebound.
Against Selkirk, captain Brad Bakken scored the game-winner in the third period.
Trinity Western led 1-0 after 40 minutes thanks to a second period goal from Brandon Long.
Long added an empty-net goal as well.
Zwiers finished with 24 saves.
The Spartans have a home game on Friday (Nov. 4) against the Victoria Vikes at the LEC.
