The Trinity Western Spartans turned a two-point game into a runaway victory on Friday night, evening up their Canada West mens basketball best-of-three series at one game apiece.

The Spartans outscored the Fraser Valley Cascades 27-8 in the fourth quarter on Friday night at the 91原创 Events Centre to win 86-69. The Cascades stole game one the night before, scoring the final 15 points to win 81-80.

And for much of the game on Friday, it looked like the Cascades were going to shoot their way to the upset as they led for much of the first three quarters, before going cold in the fourth.

The Spartans were led by Jacob Doerksen, who scored a game-high 32 points. Kyle Coston added 17 while Tristan Smith had 11 and Calvin Westbrook chipped in with 10.

Joel Friesen led Fraser Valley with 24 points.

The Spartans won despite some great three-point shooting from Fraser Valley. The Cascades went 17-for-42 (40.5 per cent) from beyond the arc. Trinity Western was just 4-for-19 from the three-point line, but the team shot nearly 48 per cent from the field.

The third and deciding game goes Saturday (Feb. 26) at the 91原创 Events Centre with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
