Two Giants have been drafted by NHL teams.

Zack Ostapchuk became the first ever Vancouver Giant to be drafted by the Ottawa Senators, selected in the second round (39th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.

鈥淚t hasn鈥檛 really sunk in yet,鈥 Ostapchuk commented.

鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 expecting to be quite that high.鈥

He said the Senators, a young team, are a 鈥済ood fit鈥 for him, but he wasn鈥檛 expecting they would pick him.

鈥淗onestly not really, I didn鈥檛 have a whole ton of conversations with them. I knew that they liked me but they really weren鈥檛 on my radar.鈥

It will be a confidence boost going into the next season with the 91原创-based Giants, Ostapchuk thinks, and he is looking forward to resuming play.

鈥淥ur confidence is high as a team and my confidence is high personally,鈥 he remarked, 鈥渟o I鈥檓 really excited for this year鈥

Giants General Manager Barclay Parneta said 鈥淶ack has worked hard and has overcome his share of adversity to get this point, and we couldn鈥檛 be happier for him and his family.鈥

Vancouver Giants head coach Michael Dyck said Ostapchuk 鈥減lays an honest, hard, fast-style of game and we鈥檙e confident that the best is still yet to come from him. He鈥檒l be a great fit with the Ottawa Senators.鈥
